Door County is a special place. There is a spirit that keeps us here - or draws us back each year.

So it's no wonder that Door County is also home to countless people who are working hard to sustain our quality of life.  There are over 350 charities, associations, service clubs, and other citizen groups serving our community! In an effort to help connect people who care with the causes that matter, we have compiled this list of tax-exempt organizations that are based in Door County, Wisconsin.

Our mission at the Door County Community Foundation is to inspire people to give back to sustain the community we love. Giving back is more than just writing a check, it's getting involved. And a great way to begin is by contacting the Volunteer Center of Door County.  They connect people with opportunities to serve, build the capacity for effective volunteering by helping agencies and individuals who work with volunteers and encourage people to volunteer.

Tax Exempt Classifications

While there are many Door County organizations that are "tax-exempt" under section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code, not all of them are considered charitable by the IRS.

Generally speaking, a contribution to an organization classified as a 501 (c)(3) public charity earns you the maximum tax deduction as allowed by law. The tax deductibility of gifts to other types of 501 (c) organizations varies depending on a number of factors. Please contact the respective organizations to confirm their tax status and the deductibility of any gift you might choose to make.

Visit the IRS website for a complete explanation of the different types of exempt organizations.
